Dr. Jun Pei, CEO and co-founder of Cepton, is a serial entrepreneur and technologist in optics and electronics. He developed the first optical and acoustical combination technique in semiconductor thin film measurement and holds numerous patents in the field of metrology. Before co-founding Cepton, Jun founded AEP Technology to develop advanced 3D instruments and pioneered parallel computing in interference microscopy. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior scientist at KLA-Tencor in optics equipment and also led engineering team at Velodyne in advancing the HDL-64 Lidar. Jun received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
In summer 2022, Jun took a trip in Japan to visit Cepton's longtime partner Koito. In one of the Koito facilities, as Jun was watching the products roll of the production line unit by unit, the moment was interrupted by the detection of a "problematic" unit. When Jun found out what the issue was, he witnessed yet another example of how Japanese craftsmanship plays a key role in ensuring top-quality production of automotive products.
