Business Development/Marketing Lead, Japan/APAC

Cepton has a unique role available for a person to lead our business development and/or marketing efforts in Japan and APAC, including but not limited to automotive OEMs and Tier 1s. This is a high-impact role that will drive relationships and substantial business opportunities with some of our largest customers and Distributors in the region and will have regular interaction with our top executives. This role will be based in Tokyo, Japan.

Key Responsibilites:

  • Manage and strongly develop key OEM, Tier 1, Distributor and Partner relationships in region

  • Be the key Japanese contact from Cepton to Koito (Cepton’s Tier 1 partner in Japan)

  • Create, manage and successfully execute on annual and quarterly business plans for the region

  • Travel as needed to build and identify top stakeholders at customers/partners and maintain successful relationships with those stakeholders

  • Be the voice of the customer, develop a keen understanding of customer needs and requirements, and work with HQ team to prepare technical, price and delivery proposals

  • Manage deliveries to customer and provide needed customer support; organize and manage customer demos

  • Develop a good understanding of offerings and capabilities of major competitors and help Cepton stay on top of industry and customer trends

  • Act as the main point of contact for Cepton in region, provide necessary project management and oversight, and stellar customer issue resolution and communication

  • Manage opportunities diligently, create reliable monthly and quarterly forecasts and track/execute to that forecast

  • Engage with top automotive OEM and Tier 1 partners with a goal of securing and executing flawlessly on serial production programs

  • Manage the responses to OEM RFIs and RFQs in partnership with Tier 1 and HQ team

  • Manage and drive Distributor/Partner business and execution

  • Drive new leads and manage the lead pipeline and closure efficiently, with Distributors and Partners

  • Manage in-region corporate events and trade shows with support from Distributors and HQ team

  • Identify high ROI marketing opportunities for Cepton in-region and help build Cepton’s brand and awareness as one of the top lidar companies in the world


  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in Business Development and/or Product Marketing in Japan, with a track record of significantly growing revenue over a period of several years

  • At least 5-7 years’ of direct experience working with large Japanese automotive OEMs and Tier 1s – with a track record of building deep and trusting customer relationships and successfully managing delivery on major programs

  • Good knowledge / understanding of automotive industry ecosystem and trends/drivers of ADAS / AV adoption among target customers in region

  • Familiar with automotive terminologies, processes, milestones and timelines to SOP for series production programs

  • Ability to understand and translate automotive series production customer requirements (technical and business) to enable Cepton to provide the right and timely solutions to customers

  • Strong project management skills

  • Strong native Japanese language skills (oral, written, presentation) as well as good English language skills (oral, written, presentation)

  • Good Japanese cultural background and experience, with high emotional intelligence to manage a variety of customers and relationships across all levels

  • Bachelors or higher degree in a science or engineering discipline

  • Able to travel without significant restrictions - within Japan, between Japan and other countries in region (e.g., China, South Korea) as well as to the United States

  • Strong skills with typical productivity, CRM and communication tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with lidar technology and lidar perception

  • Good knowledge and experience with vehicle technology applications in on or more of the following areas: radar, camera, headlamps, thermal imaging

  • Prior experience working with Koito, Toyota, Honda

  • Senior management relationships in ADAS/AV teams at automotive OEMs

  • Language proficiency in Mandarin or Korean and business experience in China and Korea
